Ever since I can remember, I’ve enjoyed creating art in one form
or another. Growing up, a lot of my energy went into drawing and
building all sorts of things with my Legos. Now that I’m older, not
much has changed except the tools I use to create. While attending the
Minneapolis College of Art and Design I learned all about the
computer animation world and how to utilize programs such as Maya,
Photoshop, and After Effects. Maya literally opened up a whole new
world of art too me once I began learning all its ins and outs. I began
referring to Maya as Legos for grown ups. It is a lot more technical,
but still the same premise of creation remains. I soon developed a
passion for modeling and have been creating a variety models since
then. From characters to environments, I love to model anything. Even
if the object is a simple prop, I still find immense joy in generating
the piece.
I truly feel there is no better way to create art than in a 3D
computer environment. The possibilities of what you can develop, is
near endless. It is one thing to paint a picture, but you are always
limited to that one view. 3D offers you the ability to paint images you
may see all sides of, as well as have it move. It’s almost like being
within a painting and being able to walk around. Imagine being able to
walk through Dali’s piece “The Persistence of Memory” and being able
to see every little detail from all perspectives. This is the kind of
power 3D allows you to create and why I choose it over any other
medium.
